Club legal kit
The paperwork that keeps partners friends.
A co-ownership agreement, club bylaws, and a nine-step setup guide — everything a group needs before money changes hands. Download them free, or skip the paper entirely: EZ Boat Share drafts the agreement, collects e-signatures, and files the signed PDF against your boat automatically.
For co-ownership groups, boat clubs and shared-LLC partnerships. Not legal advice — have a lawyer in your state review anything before it is signed.
Three documents, one foundation
Co-ownership agreement
Who owns what, who pays what, and what happens when someone wants out. The document that prevents the dockside argument.
Club bylaws
Officers, dues, late fees, voting thresholds and use rules — the operating manual for a member-run club.
Partnership setup guide
Nine steps in the right order, from picking your crew to casting off — so paperwork, money and drama stay separate.

Co-Ownership Agreement
A plain-English starting point for two or more people owning one boat together: ownership shares, cost splits, scheduling, insurance, exit rights and dispute handling.
- Ownership shares and title held in percentages
- Fixed vs. variable cost splits
- Scheduling, condition-on-return and guest rules
- Insurance minimums and approved operators
- Right of first refusal when a partner exits

Set up a boat partnership in nine steps
In this order, the paperwork, the money and the drama stay separate.
- 1
Get your team together
Find the people who actually want to share a boat, agree on the dream, and be honest about who will use it and how often. Most partnerships fail on mismatched expectations, not money.
- 2
Form an LLC
The boat and the bank account belong to the club, not to one person. An LLC protects everyone's personal assets and keeps ownership clean when shares change hands.
- 3
Set the rules of the club and boat use
Write down scheduling, maintenance duties, cleaning, fuel, guest policies and what happens when someone wants out. The bylaws template below covers all of it — adopt it by a recorded vote.
- 4
Set the dues
Decide how much each member pays and when. Be realistic about mortgage, slip, insurance, maintenance and a reserve fund — underfunded clubs are the ones that sell the boat in year two.
- 5
Establish who does what
One person the money person, another the maintenance person, another the scheduling person — but never let one person hold all the keys. The bylaws make these elected offices.
- 6
Open a bank account under the club LLC
Put your initial capital in, then pay all bills from that account. No personal Venmos, no mixed cards — commingled money is how club disputes become lawsuits.
- 7
Have partners deposit automatically
Auto-transfer kills the monthly chase and makes late dues obvious immediately. Pair it with the late-fee rule in your bylaws so nobody has to be the bad guy.
- 8
Link it in EZ Boat Share
Every member gets a top-level view of cash balance, who has paid, who has not, and any out-of-the-norm expenses this month — all automatically done by the app.
- 9
Go boating
Save the date you want to go out, walk down to your boat, follow the app's checklist, and cast off. The paperwork is done; the point was always the water.
Put the club on rails before it leaves the dock.
Agreement signed, bylaws adopted, dues on auto-transfer, scheduling in the app. That is the whole job — EZ Boat Share does the rest.
