Boat partnership agreement
Boat partnership agreement template — in plain English.
Twelve clauses covering shares, costs, scheduling, guests, insurance, buy-outs and what happens when someone wants out.
For two or more people buying a boat together, family boats and fractional owners.
Every boat partnership that goes wrong went wrong on something the partners never wrote down: who pays for the water pump, who gets the Fourth of July, what happens when one person moves away. This template gives you the conversation in a structured form, with blanks for the numbers that are genuinely yours to decide. It is a starting point for your own lawyer to review — not legal advice — and it is free.

The hard questions, asked early
Spending limits, exit terms and holiday rotation get decided while everyone is still friendly.
Rules the software enforces
What you agree on paper — rotation, reserve contributions, approval thresholds — is exactly what the app then enforces.
Signed and stored
Inside EZ BoatShare, partners sign the co-ownership agreement electronically and the signed PDF is filed with the boat's documents.
Built for the way you run it
Buying a boat with friends
Work through the template together before the survey, so the money conversation happens before the deposit.
Adding a partner later
Redo the share table, restate the terms, and have everyone sign the new version.
Family boats
Written rules take the emotion out of scheduling and repair bills between relatives.
Buying someone out
The right-of-first-refusal and valuation clauses give you a process instead of a standoff.
Common questions
Is this a legally binding contract?
It's a template, not legal advice. Marine ownership, titling and liability rules vary by state and by how the boat is held, so have a lawyer in your state review it before anyone signs or money moves.
Should we form an LLC for the boat?
Many partnerships do, for liability and clean transfer of shares, but it adds cost and paperwork and can affect insurance and registration. Ask a local attorney and your insurer before deciding.
What are the clauses partners most often forget?
A spending threshold for non-emergency repairs, a monthly reserve contribution, a written exit process with valuation, and a rule about who may operate the boat under the insurance policy.
Can partners sign electronically in the app?
Yes. Draft the agreement, choose which partners sign and who countersigns, and each person signs from their phone. The completed PDF is stored with the boat's documents and a tracker shows who is outstanding.
Write it down before you buy the boat.
Take the free template to your lawyer, then run the signed agreement — and everything it says — inside EZ BoatShare.
